Hardly a surprise, but Sony got on stage today at GamesCom and confirmed what we’ve all knew deep down in our hearts: the new, slimmer PS3 is really real. It’ll be out in the first week of September, and will retail for $300 (or 300 Euro). It’s smaller and lighter, with “all the same features” of the PS3, consuming 34 percent less power and taking up 32 percent less space. Stand by for details

Sony has officially unveiled the new, slim version of its PlayStation 3 console. According to Shacknews, there’s only a single unit, and it has a $299 price tag and a 120GB hard drive. Sony has also dropped the prices of the old 80GB and 120GB consoles to $299 and $399, respectively. It will be available on September 1st for a mere $299 price tag, and features the same I/O as the current PS3. You may also notice a new PS3 logo and the finish is no longer glossy, therefore your finger prints and dust will not be that attracted to the unit.
