In recent years, I've armed myself with the relevant knowledge and information on health and fitness. While there are many such articles online, I deliberately targeted the ones on AsiaOne because I can be sure that they have been selected for their relevance to the Asian community. Even though I possessed the knowledge, my inaction meant that I never put them into practice. My first challenge was to shake off my apathy and inertia and start taking concrete steps to achieving my fitness goals. For me, this meant mapping out a weight loss programme. Before mapping out any fitness, exercise or diet routine, it is important to ask yourself why many people fail to accomplish their weight management goals. There is no point in having well-planned routine and goals if one does not appreciate how their personal circumstances could put a spanner in the works. Based on my own experience.Related Topics: fitness, fitness online, health fitness online, muscle fitness online, fitness personal trainer, fitness workout online, health nutrition fitness, health fitness diet, fitness exercises online, fitness losing weight, fitness ipad, fitness iphone, ipad, iphone

Never Take Fitness Advice From the New York Times
The lead story in the New York Times Magazine's wellness issue this past weekend: "Does working out really help you lose weight?" A better question: Why doesn't the New York Times want to tell you the fitness truth?. This is hardly the first time the NYT has asked some slight variation of this maddening question. But this latest story clearly distilled these fundamental premises from which the journalism proceeds: 1. Weight loss is the goal towards which you should strive. 2. Exercise therefore has value to the extent it helps you lose weight. 3. Your goal is to become thin. Quick'n'Dirty Podcast: Health, Fitness and iPads
Running! Walking! Cycling! Sleeping! iPads! All of these things were discussed on last week’s Quick’n'Dirty Podcast, which focused on a central theme: fitness. How does the iPad fit in? Well, it doesn’t, but we did talk about it. And when I say “we”, I mean me and guest co-host Kyle Flaherty, as regular co-host Aaron Strout was off doing his globetrotting thing for work. The show started with a look at ChallengeApp, a pretty cool site that helps create and track challenges among friends. While Kyle tells the story of how he used ChallengeApp as part of marathon training, we don’t believe that challenges necessarily must be limited to fitness. Mario Kart challenge, anyone?. 'The Biggest Loser' bits: Jillian's shoes, Kai's big mouth and tonight's show
Shrewd businessperson that she is -- except for that whole diet pill dust-up -- "Biggest Loser" trainer Jillian Michaels continues to find ways to expand her brand. She signed an endorsement deal with K-Swiss shoes on Monday. (That's not very exciting news, is it?) Jillian got a lot more publicity for canoodling with actress Vanessa Marcil on a dance floor a couple weeks ago (remember: Jillian has admitted she swings both ways), but apparently they're just best friends. Too bad. Moving on, it seems that former "Biggest Loser" finalist Kai Hibbard continues to spout off about how horrible the show is and how unhealthy it made her. Jillian Michaels: Parents, Don't Be Like Me With Your Kids
As a brutally-tough trainer on NBC's The Biggest Loser, Jillian Michaels screams, bellows and generally terrifies fitness-challenged contestants. Harsh? Maybe. Effective? Definitely. So ParentDish asked the health-and-fitness guru how to shape up our families and overhaul our snack drawers. It's time for some tough love. ParentDish: What were you like as a little kid? We read that you were 175 lbs. at 5 feet tall. What were your eating/exercise habits like back then? Jillian Michaels: I was a very sensitive kid. The class loser all through junior high. The chubby ugly duckling that ate lunch alone every day. I ate all processed crap and used food for comfort. Microwave pancakes and sausage for breakfast. Pizza, Coke, potato boat for my school lunch. Atkins for life? How to stick to the new and improved diet plan after you reach your target weight
Last week we introduced you to the new Atkins Diet. This week we'll show you how to stay on it ... One of the biggest criticisms of the popular Atkins diet was the way it abandoned dieters once they'd lost all the weight they wanted to lose. Many devotees fell foul of 'carb creep' - succumbing to the lure of banned carbohydrates slowly infiltrating their high-protein lives. If you were prepared to never let another piece of pasta or slice of bread pass your lips, you might stay slim for ever. But, as so many found, Atkins is mercilessly tough in the real world, where carbohydrate temptation lies at every turn. Now, a trio of U.S. doctors have devised a healthier, easier version of Atkins which provides a palatable and effective solution for living the low-carb life long-term. In last week's Life & Style, we explained the many ways their new version of the Atkins diet improves on the old Atkins.Related Topics: atkins diet plan, free atkins diet plan,dr atkins diet plan, atkins diet phase 1,atkins diet plan, atkins diet food list, atkins diet success stories, low carb foods, atkins diet recipes, atkins diet induction, low carb diet, the atkins diet plan, atkins diet plan menu

THE NEW ATKINS: More user-friendly diet back and, this time, you can eat veggies
After falling out of favor with the public because of controversy surrounding its high-protein, low-carbohydrate diet, the Atkins Advantage is back. But this time it's a user-friendly, easier-to-understand, carb-controlling, fat-burning machine. The new Atkins, named after the recent release of the bookThe New Atkins for a New You: The Ultimate Diet for Shedding Weight and Feeling Great, penned by three doctors, follows the tradition of Robert Atkins. Atkins, who died in 2003, started the craze in 1972 with Dr. Atkin's Diet Revolution. The new Atkins hopes to dispel the myth that veggies are a no-no. In fact, vegetables are incorporated into the diet on the very first day.Related Topics: atkins diet plan, free atkins diet plan,dr atkins diet plan, atkins diet phase 1,atkins diet plan, atkins diet food list, atkins diet success stories, low carb foods, atkins diet recipes, atkins diet induction, low carb diet, the atkins diet plan, atkins diet plan menu

Digesting the facts on new Atkins diet
The Atkins diet has changed little since 1972, slashing carbohydrates such as pasta and potatoes and allowing beef, butter and cheese. Now others carry the torch for the late Robert C. Atkins with "The New Atkins for a New You."USA TODAY talked to co-author Eric Westman, director of the Duke Lifestyle Medicine Clinic in Durham, N.C. Question: How is the current Atkins diet different from the original? Answer: We have emphasized that you have to have five servings of vegetables a day. The book hammers home right away at the myth that you don't eat vegetables on Atkins. You have to. That's just sound nutrition. Overall, there has been a large amount of research on low-carb diets, and we incorporated that knowledge into the book.Related Topics:atkins diet plan, free atkins diet plan,dr atkins diet plan, atkins diet phase 1,atkins diet plan, atkins diet food list, atkins diet success stories, low carb foods, atkins diet recipes, atkins diet induction, low carb diet, the atkins diet plan, atkins diet plan menu

New Atkins diet unhealthy, says Kiwi dietician
The new Atkins diet is not a healthy way to shed extra pounds, a Kiwi food expert has warned. The new version of Atkins, which is available in bookstores across New Zealand, modifies the low-carbohydrate regimen unveiled by Dr. Robert Atkins in 1972 for the 21st century.ver since it was launched, the four-phase Atkins Diet has been both popular and controversial.hile film stars like Renee Zellweger, Jennifer Aniston and Kim Cattrall followed the diet, which emphasises on high protein and minimum carbohydrate intake, to shed extra pounds, critics panned it for promoting meats and fats. While the new Atkins Diet is quite pro-veggie, it fails to convince Christchurch dietician Janice Bremer. “The ‘new’ diet might offer more varieties of foods but coloured vegetables, fruits, whole grains, dried beans and milk products are still severely restricted by the carbohydrate-counting rule,”. The NEW Atkins for You
We all know the 411 about the Atkins Diet. Low-carbs, fast weight loss, it’s the one diet that someone we each know has tried. And though the diet has been out of the limelight the past few years, there’s a new Atkins springing up. The book, “New Atkins for a New You: The Ultimate Diet for Shedding Weight and Feeling Great,” by Dr. Eric C. Westerman, Stephen D. Phinney and Jeff S. Volek debuted in early March. Essentially it’s still the same low-carb diet, the new book revamps Atkins once again. This time around, the authors are calling the diet a lifestyle change and promises readers this form of Atkins can help keep the weight off... forever. We like the revamped references in this book, with over 50 nutritional studies supporting their diet. The number of success stories are also prime motivation that dropping the carbs can mean real results. Dread Is Martyrs for People on the Atkins Diet
The latest After Dark Horrorfest could stand to dig (its knife) a little deeper. There have been two After Dark Horrorfest movies where the sadistic mastermind's true motives are in trying to prove a point. In both movies, that point is something about human behavior. The first movie that tries to do this is Kill Theory, which I thought was well done. The second of these movies is Dread. In the same vain as Martyrs, Dread's psychological (then physical) trauma inflicted on the victims is done to prove a point. While Martyrs went beyond the limit, Dread goes a tad lite on the issue. Yes, I'm actually calling Dread a diet version of Martyrs. The story revolves around Stephen (Twilight hearthrob/current racebending offender, Jackson Rathbone) a college student who decides to do his thesis on dread, or what people fear the most.
